Welcome to my blog!

If you’ve come from my Instagram then you already know a bit about me, but for newer visitors I am going to introduce myself. My name is Holly (but you probably guessed that from the website name) and I am a 14 year old absolutely crazy about cakes, cookies and anything sweet. Ive had my Instagram page since April 2018 but am still waiting for my page to get the popularity that I would like it to achive. However in that time I have competed twice at Cake International (more on the drama of that in a post to come later on), been commissioned for several birthday cakes and even made a wedding cake!

Through my page I can see the improvement I have made and im constantly learning and trying to get better and better.I firmly believe that cakes make literally everything better and my hope is to be the person who makes the cakes that cheer people up. Mostly I bake for my family and friends, working on improving my decorating skills and my use of flavour and textures in cake but im slowly growing and branching out into commissions and competitions- the end dream is to have a cake business or even a bakery and I am fully prepared to put all the time, effort and money it takes to achieve this.

I grew up baking with my mum and now I’m eager to share the knowledge and recipes I have acquired with you lot- so you can bake and make people happy with your baked goods (or just eat them all yourself if you want too). If that’s something you like the idea of then stick around, because I aim to post a new recipe or blog post about similar things every two weeks. If you didn’t come here from my Instagram then you can check it out (@hollys_bakes_and_treats) for more regular cake content- while you’re there feel free to send me a message about anything you’d like to see on this new blog page.

Thank you very much for visiting my page today, hope you come back -the first recipe I intend to post is buttercreams, an easy adaptable base and ideas on how to adapt it 🙂 – Holly x

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
